Temperature Gauge: Testing and Inspection
ERRATIC TEMPERATURE GAUGE OPERATION1. Disconnect coolant temperature sender connector.
2. Connect a 1400 Ohm resistor between terminal B (Dark Green) of the coolant temperature sender and ground. Turn ignition ON.
^ If gauge reads cold, replace coolant temperature sender.
^ If gauge reads hot, repair or replace Dark Green wire (open circuit) or printed circuit board.
3. Connect a 55 Ohm resistor between terminal B (Dark Green) of the coolant temperature sender and ground. Turn ignition ON.
^ If gauge reads hot, replace coolant temperature sender.
^ If gauge reads cold, repair or replace Dark Green wire (short circuit) or printed circuit board.
TEMPERATURE GAUGE INDICATES HOT
1. Disconnect coolant temperature sender connector.
2. Turn ignition switch ON.
^ If gauge indicates HOT, check for short in Dark Green sender wire or printed circuit board.
^ If gauge indicates COLD, replace coolant temperature sender.
TEMPERATURE GAUGE INDICATES COLD
1. Disconnect coolant temperature sender connector.
2. Ground Dark Green coolant temperature sender wire. Turn ignition switch ON.
^ If gauge indicates COLD, check for open in Dark Green sender wire or printed circuit board.
^ If gauge indicates HOT, replace coolant temperature sender.
