1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove right and left sound insulators, Figs. 117 and 118.
3. Lower steering column trim cover.
4. Remove instrument panel compartment door.
5. Remove lower A/C duct.
6. Remove three steering column retaining bolts, then lower steering column.
7. On Z24 models, remove console assembly as follows:
a. Place transmission in the Neutral position and set parking brake.
b. On models with automatic transmission, remove shifter knob horse shoe retaining clip.
c. On models with manual transmission, remove shift knob set screw, then the shift knob.
d. On all models, remove console front trim plate.
e. Remove two console to instrument panel bracket retaining screws.
f. Remove rear console ashtray and two trim plate to retaining screws.
g. Remove console upper trim plate.
h. Remove two front and rear console to mounting bracket retaining screws.
i. Remove console to wiring harness and radio.
j. Remove console from vehicle.
8. On all models, remove right hand lower trim plate, Fig. 119, then disconnect cigar lighter and accessory switches.
9. Pull A/C control head out from I/P enough to disconnect wiring and vacuum harnesses, then remove head.
10. Disconnect forward lamp harness and engine harness from bulkhead connector in engine compartment, then remove bulkhead connector from cowl by removing two retaining nuts in the engine compartment.
11. Remove hood release handle and hood release retaining nut, then push hood release cable through instrument panel.
12. Remove four upper instrument panel retaining screws located in defroster duct openings.
13. Remove two lower corner instrument panel retaining nuts, Fig. 120.
14. Remove one screw to instrument panel brace at left side of instrument panel compartment opening.
15. Pull instrument panel assembly out enough to disconnect ignition switch, headlight dimmer switch and turn signal switch electrical connectors.
16. Disconnect vacuum hoses and remaining electrical connectors.
17. Disconnect leads from instrument panel to PRNDL and ashtray lamps.
18. Remove instrument panel assembly with wiring harness attached.
19. Reverse procedure to install.
