Overhead Cam Engine Except Turbocharged

Manual Transaxle
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove wiring strap from upper starter mounting bolt.
3. Disconnect shifter cables at selector lever.
4. Remove upper and lower transaxle control lever cable bracket and cables.
5. Remove drive axle support brace.
6. Disconnect wiring from starter motor, then remove starter motor mounting bolts and starter motor.
7. Reverse procedure to install.

Automatic Transaxle
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove blower motor as described under HEATING VENTILATION AND AIR CONDITION/COMPONENT REPLACEMENT AND REPAIR PROCEDURES/BLOWER MOTOR.
3. Disconnect wiring from starter motor.
4. Remove starter motor bracket, then disconnect wiring loom from upper starter mounting bolt and remove bolt.
5. On 1989 models, remove transaxle strut.
6. On all models, remove starter motor lower mounting bolt, then remove starter motor through blower motor opening.
7. Reverse procedure to install.
