Fuel Pump: Description and Operation
In-tank Electric Fuel Pump.:

Fuel System Components.:
The fuel pump is mounted on the top of the fuel tank. The fuel tank must be removed in order to gain access to the fuel pump.
The fuel pump is a turbine type, low pressure electric pump, mounted on the fuel level sender assembly in the fuel tank. The fuel pump delivers pressurized fuel (from 4 to 13 P.S.I.) from the pump through an in-line filter to the TBI unit and injectors. Excess fuel is bled off after the injectors by the fuel pressure regulator mounted in the throttle body. Excess fuel is then returned to the fuel tank through the fuel return line.
The fuel gage sending unit is attached to the lower front of the fuel tank. It is bolted in place and a gasket is used between the tank and the sending unit.
