Subject:
RETROFIT 1988-89-90 ENGINE OIL PRESSURE/FUEL PUMP SWITCH WITH 1991 MODEL YEAR SWITCH

Models Affected:
1988-90 LE MANS MODELS

This bulletin has been revised to change the positive battery cable in # 1 and # 8 of the procedure to read "NEGATIVE", also the parts statement has been changed to read currently available. This bulletin cancels and replaces bulletin 90-8-36 issued 4/91. Please discard bulletin 90-8-36.

It is now possible to install the 1991 model year engine oil pressure/fuel pump switch P/N 25036941 on all past model LeMans vehicles replacing switch P/N 90240259. The 1991 model year switch will provide increased durability in the event of a failure of the existing switch.

PARTS REQUIRED:

Quantity Part Number Description

1 25036941 Switch, Oil Pressure/
Fuel Pump

1 11023582 Sealing Ring

1 96136302 Kit, Jumper Wire Assembly

1 NPN Strap

Parts are currently available from GMSPO.

Procedures:

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Disconnect the engine oil pressure/fuel pump switch harness connector from the switch (Refer to 1990 LeMans Service Manual Page 8A-201-3 Figure A). It will be necessary to raise the vehicle on a hoist and remove the right hand lower plastic engine compartment splash shield to gain access to the oil pressure switch and harness.

3. Detach the existing connector from the switch wiring harness by cutting the three wires even with the base of the connector.

4. Slip one of the three shrink tube seals from the jumper wire kit over each of the jumper wire leads prior to connecting the three wires from the switch harness to the wire leads on the new jumper wire assembly, P/N 96136302. Make sure that the wire colors on the jumper wire assembly match the corresponding wire colors on the wire harness beforc crimping the "Tube Type" splice clips. Heat the three shrink tube seals with a heat gun to provide a water tight seal of the wire splices.

5. Remove the existing oil pressure switch, P/N 90240259 from the cylinder block and replace it with the new part P/N 25036941. A sealing ring, P/N 11023582 must be installed on the new oil pressure switch to prevent oil leakage. Torque the switch unit to 21-34 N-m (15 - 25 lbs.ft.) of torque.

6. Connect the switch harness connector to the switch.

7. Using a tie-strap, strap the oil pressure/fuel pump switch wire harness to the generator wire harness removing any slack and preventing contact of the harness with the right hand drive axle.

8. Reinstall the negative battery cable. With the ignition in the "On" position and the engine not running, the instrument panel oil pressure light should be "Illuminated" with the engine running, the light should go "off".

9. After running the engine, check for any oil leakage from the engine oil pressure/fuel pump switch.

10. Reinstall the right hand engine compartment lower splash shield.

The jumper wire assembly, oil pressure/fuel pump switch, and sealing washer are available from GMSPO.
