2-3 Shift Complaints


Before diagnosing 2-3 shift problems, check transmission fluid level and adjust T.V. cable and manual linkage as required.

Delayed Harsh Upshift
1. High oil pressure.
2. Direct clutch accumulator exhaust hole plugged or not drilled.
3. Direct clutch exhaust valve check ball No. 1 missing, improperly located or leaking.
4. Valve body throttle valve and plunger binding.
5. T.V. shift valve binding.

Slow, Early Or Drawn Out Shifts With End Bump
1. Low oil pressure.
2. Intermediate servo piston to case seal ring missing or damaged.
3. Servo piston or bore (case) damaged.
4. Orifice plug missing from case servo bore area.
5. Accumulator exhaust check valve not seated.
6. Direct clutch feed orifice in spacer plate restricted.
7. Spacer plate or gaskets leaking or incorrectly installed.
8. Check ball No. 5 not seated.
9. Direct clutch case cover passages porous or incorrect cover gasket.
10. Driven sprocket support passages interconnected, leaking or restricted.
11. Driven sprocket support oil seal rings damaged or missing. Support inner sleeve loose or out of position.
12. Direct clutch check ball, check ball capsule or seals damaged or leaking.
13. Direct clutch piston or housing cracked, apply ring missing or incorrect number of clutch plates.
