Installation

INSTALLATION
1. Place the gasket in position over the dowel pins with the note "This Side Up" showing.
2. Install Cylinder head.
3. Coat the cylinder head bolt threads with sealer GM P/N 1052080 (or equivalent), install bolts, and torque bolts to 45 Nm (33 lb. ft.) + 90°, using J 36660. See Figure 2 for tightening sequence.
4. Install intake manifold gasket.
5. Install pushrods loosely retained with rocker arms.

NOTE Install correct length pushrods: intake pushrods are marked orange, exhaust pushrods are marked blue.

6. Install rocker arms and torque nuts to 26 Nm ( 19 ft. lb. ).
7. Install intake manifold and plenum. Refer to Intake Manifold / Service and Repair. Service and Repair
8. Install valve covers.
9. Connect plug wires to cylinder head.
10. Install right exhaust manifold and torque bolts to 28 Nm ( 21 ft. lb. ) Refer to Exhaust Manifold / Service and Repair. Service and Repair

11. Install exhaust crossover pipe and torque nuts to 25 Nm ( 18 ft. lb. ) then raise vehicle.
12. Install crossover heat shield.
13. Return engine to proper position.
14. Install coolant recovery bottle.
15. Install torque struts and torque nuts to 25 Nm ( 18 ft. lb. )
16. Raise and suitably support vehicle then install exhaust at crossover.
17. Lower vehicle then fill cooling system. For additional procedures refer to Cooling System / Service and Repair / Draining and Refilling. Service and Repair
18. Connect negative battery cable and torque bolts to 15 Nm ( 11 ft.lb. ).Refer to Fuel Delivery and Air Induction / Service and Repair / Idle Learn Procedure.
19. Install air cleaner assembly.
20. Inspect for proper fluid levels, leaks, and completion of repair.

NOTE It is recommended that engine oil be drained and crankcase refilled with clean engine oil to avoid possible contamination by engine coolant and/or foreign material when removing cylinder head.
