Diagnosis By Symptom - Gauges Cluster
FUEL GAGE INDICATES EMPTY WITH FUEL TANK FULLDisconnect the fuel tank unit connector C409. Turn the ignition switch to RUN.
If the fuel gage now indicates full, refer to FUEL GAGE IS INACCURATE, below.
If the fuel gage still indicates empty, check/repair the PPL (30) wire for a short to ground. If OK, replace the Instrument Cluster.
FUEL GAGE IS INACCURATE
Disconnect connector C409 and connect one lead of tester J 33431 to terminal B (PPL) and the other to terminal D (BLK/WHT) of the harness half of connector C409. Turn the ignition switch to RUN. Set the resistance dials of the tester to 1 ohm 44 ohms and then to 88 ohms. The fuel gage should read E, midscale and then F.
If the gage responds correctly, replace the fuel gage sender and its wires.
If the gage does not respond correctly, replace the instrument cluster.
