Powertrain Controls - ECM/PCM
Code 41 Chart:
Electronic Control Module (ECM):
TEST DESCRIPTION: Numbers below refer to circled numbers on the diagnostic chart.
1. The Electronic Control Module (ECM) used for this engine can also be used for other engines, and the difference is in the Mem-Cal. If a Code 41 sets, the incorrect Mem-Cal has been installed or it is faulty and it must be replaced.
NOTE: Because of all the possible color code combinations used on electrical wiring diagrams, always refer to SCHEMATIC DIAGRAMS/ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC WIRING DIAGRAMS/ECM CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION for correct color code identification of circuit.
DIAGNOSTIC AIDS:
Check Mem-cal to be sure locking tabs are secure. Also check the Mem-Cal and ECM to make sure they are making proper contact. Check the Mem-cal part number to assure it is the correct part. If the Mem-Cal is faulty it must be replaced. It is also possible that the ECM is faulty, however it should not be replace until all of the above has been checked.
