Harmonic Balancer - Crankshaft Pulley: Service and Repair
CAUTION: The inertial weight section of the torsional damper is assembled to the hub with a rubber sleeve. The removal and installation procedures must be followed using the correct tools or movement of the inertia weight section of the hub will destroy the tuning of the torsional damper and the engine timing reference.Torsional Damper:
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect negative (-) battery cable at battery.
2. Remove serpentine drive belt.
3. Remove drive pulley and remove damper retaining bolt.
Torsional Damper Remover And Installer:
4. Install J 23523-E on damper and then turning puller screw, remove damper.
INSTALLATION
1. Coat front cover seal contact area on damper with engine oil.
2. Place damper in position over key on crankshaft.
Torsional Damper Installer:
3. Pull damper onto crankshaft as follows:
a. Install J 29113 into crankshaft so that at least 6 mm (0.2 inch) of thread engagement is obtained.
b. Pull damper into position and remove tool from damper.
4. Install drive pulley and damper retaining bolts. Torque to 95 Nm (70 ft. lb.)
5. Install serpentine belt.
