INFORMATION ON THE NEW POLICY
FOR CONVERTIBLE TOP BACK WINDOWS

Models
Affected:
1991-92 FIREBIRD MODELS

This bulletin replaces bulletin 92-10-52 issued 6/92. This bulletin is being revised to include only the 1991-92 Firebird convertible models. Please discard bulletin 92-10-52.

The new policy of PONTIAC Divisions regarding the Convertible Back Windows on Firebird style vehicles is as follows:

- Claims for replacement of complete convertible top covers for correction of back window problems will no longer be accepted.

- The back window will be replaced (sewn into the original top cover) by a local trim shop, using locally available material.

- The replacement back window material must meet Department of Transportation standards (typical trade names are "REGALITE", "ULTRALITE", etc.).

A typical procedure would include the following steps:

1. After removal, place top cover face down on a clean work surface and "score" the inside surface of the window at the window opening using a razor blade, utility knife, etc.

2. Position the replacement window to the top cover, trim most of the excess material off and tape the window to the cover.

3. Using the window opening as a guide, protect the inside surface with paper and tape to prevent damage during sewing operations.

4. Sew the new window to the cover with two rows of stitches: (approximately 6 stitches per inch) - use original sew line and holes as guide.

5. Remove the protective tape and paper, and trim window material to final size.

6. Using a heat gun, apply heat to both sides of the sewn area to help seal and shrink the stitch.

7. Separate the old window from the cover at the score lines and remove from cover.

Reinstall the top cover to the vehicle.
