Subject: INFORMATION ON NEW WEATHERSTRIP T-TOP PANELS ONLY

Models

Affected: 1990-91 FIREBIRD MODELS
Some late built 1990 model, as well as ALL 1991 model Firebird models equipped with T-Tops (CC-1 option) will have a new T-Top panel weatherstrip. This new weatherstrip, P/N 10165420 differs from the previous types in two areas:

Parts are currently available from GMSPO.

1. The new weatherstrip does not have any retaining tabs to hold the butt joints in position after adjustment. The weatherstrip will be glued into the retainer, and no other retention is required.
2. The molded ends of the weatherstrip are much shorter and do not extend toward the center as much as the previous weatherstrip.

GMSPO will continue to service the previous weatherstrip (P/N 20680014) until the stock is depleted. At that time, the new part will replace all past model applications.

When replacing past model weatherstrips with the new part:

1. Remove the weatherstrip from the T-Top panel.
2. Install the panel onto the vehicle.
3. Apply a continuous bead of 3M# 08011 adhesive (or equivalent) in the outboard edge of the retainer.
4. Install the weatherstrip into retainer and position butt joints for light contact.
5. Allow 30 minutes drying time.

Use published operation and time allowance.
