Models W/Manual Transaxles


1. Disconnect battery cables and remove battery jump terminal.
2. Remove air cleaner and duct assembly.
3. Drain cooling system and remove coolant recovery tank.
4. Disconnect control cables at throttle body.
5. Remove serpentine drive belt as outlined under SERPENTINE DRIVE BELT.
6. Disconnect wiring harness cover and upper engine wire connectors at right strut tower.
7. Disconnect engine ground near air cleaner bracket.
8. Relieve fuel system pressure as outlined under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURE/FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELIEF then disconnect fuel lines at fuel rail.
9. Disconnect heater hose quick connect at intake manifold and bracket.
10. Disconnect and remove engine torque strut.
11. Remove upper and lower radiator hoses.
12. Disconnect heater hoses at water pump.
13. Remove engine torque strut bracket at frame.
14. Remove right and left engine coolant fan retaining screws.
15. Remove upper radiator support.
16. Remove both engine cooling fans.
17. Disconnect electrical bulkhead connector at right fire wall.
18. Disconnect ECM and set on engine.
19. Remove convenience center, wiring harness cover, harness clips and low coolant sensor connector and position entire harness assembly on top of engine.
20. Discharge A/C system and disconnect A/C lines near accumulator.
21. Remove shift control cable at lever bracket.
22. Mark then disconnect all necessary vacuum lines.
23. Raise and support vehicle.
24. Remove both front tire and wheel assemblies.
25. Remove both flywheel covers.
26. Drain engine oil into a suitable container.
27. Remove starter motor.
28. Remove flywheel to converter bolts.
29. Remove right and left engine splash shields.
30. Disconnect front brake ABS electrical connectors, if equipped.
31. Disconnect front exhaust pipe and converter assembly.
32. Remove both front brake calipers and support on body.
33. Disconnect steering column intermediate shaft pinch bolt and remove shaft from stub.
34. Position transaxle jack under power train.
35. Disconnect and plug transaxle cooler lines.
36. Remove frame bolts.
37. Lower powertrain from vehicle.
38. Disconnect electrical connectors and harness from left lower side of engine.
39. Remove A/C compressor with lines attached.
40. Disconnect electrical, alternator and sensor connectors and ground connections from rear of engine.
41. Remove exhaust crossover pipe.
42. Remove right axle from transaxle.
43. Remove drive axle shield.
44. Remove engine mounts as outlined under MOUNTS.
45. Remove power steering pump assembly.
46. Remove transaxle to engine bolts.
47. Install engine lifting device and remove engine assembly from transaxle.
48. Reverse procedure to install.
