Exhaust Moan/Boom (Install Dampener)

Models:
1991 and 1993-95 Chevrolet Lumina, Monte Carlo
1991 and 1993-95 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme
1991 and 1993-95 Pontiac Grand Prix
with 3.4L V-6 Engine (VIN X - RPO LQ1)

This bulletin is being revised to add model years 1994-95, art work and warranty information has also been revised. Previous divisional publication numbers were:

Chevrolet 93-52-SF
Pontiac 93-6-14
Oldsmobile 93-T-22
GM of Canada 93-6F-101

Condition

Some 1991 W-cars assembled prior to VIN breakpoints indicated below and 1993-95 W-cars with 3.4L V-6 engines (RPO LQ1), may exhibit an exhaust moan/boom audible in the vehicle passenger compartment.

Cause

Vehicle exhaust system excited by engine exhaust pulse induced vibration.

Correction

Following instructions and illustration below, install dampener, P/N 10199232.





1. Raise vehicle.
2. Remove muffler crossover pipe clamp nuts (See Figure).
3. Install and position dampener, P/N 10199232 to clamp as shown, install clamp nuts and torque nuts to 50 N-m (37 Lb.ft.).
4. Lower vehicle.
