Subject: FRONT PARK LAMP BREAKAGE (MODIFY LAMP HOUSING/INSTALL NEW DESIGN BULB)
Models
Affected: 1988-90 GRAND PRIX COUPE, 1990-91 GRAND PRIX SEDAN
Condition: Broken front park lamp bulb.
Cause: Water may enter lamp at drain hole and/or at bulb socket gasket and contact hot bulb.
Correction: Modify the lamp housing and install new design bulb as follows:
Procedure:
1. Remove the lamp assembly from the lower front fascia by removing two retaining screws.
2. Remove the bulb socket from the lamp housing.
3. Using black RTV sealant such as GM # 12345739 or equivalent, plug the drain hole in the lamp housing.
4. Install new bulb, P/N 9442880 in the lamp assembly.
Parts are expected to be available on October 21, 1991. In case of limited inventory, parts will be placed on 400 Control to waive VIP surcharges. Only verifiable emergency VIP orders will be accepted. SPO will make every effort to obtain parts. However, the part will be shipped premium transportation at dealer's expense and all other order types will be placed on backorder until the 400 control is removed.
IMPORTANT: The new design bulb includes a new rubber gasket which should prevent water from entering the lamp at the bulb socket. Using the old style (foam) gasket on the lamp after closing the drain hole may result in a lamp that retains any water that enters at the socket gasket, causing unsightly appearance and future bulb failures.
5. Reinstall the lamp assembly.
6. Repeat procedure on opposite side of vehicle.
