Engine Installation

Install or Connect
1. Engine assembly.
2. Support engine using J 28467-A.
3. Remove lifting device.
4. Transaxle to engine bolts.
5. Heater hoses.
6. Raise vehicle and suitably support.
7. Lower transaxle to engine bolts.
8. Shift cable bracket at transaxle.
9. Intermediate shaft bracket to engine ( manual transaxle ).
10. Engine mounts. Refer to Engine Mount / Locations. Locations Refer to Engine Mount / Service and Repair. Engine Mount
11. Flywheel to torque converter bolts.
12. Exhaust pipe at rear of manifold and torque nuts to 35 Nm ( 26 ft. lb. ).
13. A/C compressor.
14. Starter and torque bolts to 43 Nm ( 32 ft. lb. ). Refer to Starter Motor / Service and Repair. Service and Repair
15. Flywheel cover.
16. Right inner fender splash shield.
17. Lower vehicle.
18. Remove engine support J 28467-A.
19. Coolant by-pass and overflow hoses at engine.

CAUTION: To Reduce the Risk of Fire and Personal Injury: Before connecting fuel line fittings, always apply a few drops of clean engine oil to the male tube ends. This will ensure proper reconnection and prevent a possible fuel leak. (During normal operation, the O-rings located in the female connector will swell and may prevent proper reconnection if not lubricated.) DO NOT attempt to repair sections of nylon fuel lines. If damaged, replace.

20. Fuel lines and torque fittings to 27 Nm ( 20 ft. lb. ).
21. Wiring harness at engine. Refer to Vehicle / Locations / Connectors / Pictorial Views for harness locations. Connector Locations
22. Generator and torque bolt/stud to 25 Nm ( 18 ft. lb. ).
23. Cables from bracket at plenum.
24. Radiator hoses.
25. Idler, if equipped.
26. Drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner / Service and Repair. Service and Repair
27. Serpentine belt. Refer to Drive Belt / Service and Repair. Service and Repair
28. Exhaust manifold/crossover assembly and torque nuts to 25 Nm ( 18 ft. lb. )
29. Fill all necessary fluid levels.
30. Battery and battery cables and torque bolts to 15 Nm ( 11 ft.lb. ).Refer to Fuel Delivery and Air Induction / Service and Repair / Idle Learn Procedure. Service and Repair
31. Air cleaner assembly.
32. Inspect for proper fluid levels for leaks.
