Engine Removal
WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire and personal injury, always relieve fuel system pressure prior to disconnecting fuel system components.1. Relieve fuel line pressure. Refer to Fuel System Pressure Relief Procedure for fuel pressure bleed procedure. Service and Repair

2. Remove air cleaner assembly.
3. Disconnect battery cables.
4. Drain engine coolant. For additional procedures refer to Cooling System / Service and Repair / Draining and Refilling. Service and Repair
5. Remove exhaust manifold/crossover assembly.
6. Remove serpentine belt. Refer to Drive Belt / Service and Repair. Service and Repair
7. Remove drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner / Service and Repair. Service and Repair
8. Remove idler, if equipped.
9. Remove radiator hoses.
10. Remove cables from mounting bracket at plenum.
11. Remove generator.
12. Remove wiring harness at engine. Refer to Vehicle / Locations / Connectors / Pictorial Views for harness locations. Locations
13. Remove fuel lines. Refer to Fuel Supply Line under Fuel Delivery and Air Induction. Fuel Return Line under Fuel Delivery and Air Induction. Fuel Delivery and Air Induction
14. Remove coolant by-pass and overflow hoses at engine.
15. Support engine using J 28467-A.
16. Raise vehicle and suitably support.
17. Remove cannister purge vacuum line at engine.
18. Remove right inner fender splash shield.
19. Remove flywheel cover.
20. Remove starter. Refer to Starter Motor / Service and Repair. Starter Motor
21. Remove A/C compressor.
22. Remove exhaust pipe at rear of manifold.
23. Remove flywheel to torque converter bolts.
24. Remove engine mounts. Refer to Engine Mount / Locations. Locations Refer to Engine Mount / Service and Repair. Engine Mount
25. Remove intermediate shaft bracket to engine (manual transaxle).
26. Remove shift cable bracket at transaxle.
27. Remove lower transaxle to engine bolts.
28. Lower vehicle.
29. Remove heater hoses.
30. Install engine lifting device.
31. Remove engine support J 28467-A.
32. Support transaxle.
33. Remove transaxle bolts.
34. Remove engine assembly.
