Removal and Installation
TIMING BELTRemove or Disconnect
1. Negative (-) battery cable.
2. Upper timing belt front cover.
3. Power steering pump (if equipped).
4. Raise and suitably support vehicle.
5. Right-side splash shield.
6. Align timing marks on crankshaft pulley with indicator on lower timing belt cover.
7. Lower timing belt front cover.
8. Release timing belt tension and remove timing belt from crankshaft.
9. Lower vehicle.
10. Timing belt from engine.
Install or Connect
Important: Ensure camshaft timing mark is in the 12 o'clock position before a new timing belt is installed.
1. Timing belt onto engine.
2. Raise and suitably support vehicle.
3. Pull back timing belt tensioner and install timing belt onto crankshaft timing sprocket.
4. Lower timing belt front covers.
5. Right-side splash shield.
6. Lower vehicle.
7. Power steering pump (if equipped).
8. Upper timing belt front cover.
9. Negative (-) battery cable.
TIMING BELT FRONT COVERS
Remove or Disconnect
1. Negative (-) battery cable.
2. Loosen generator upper and lower mounting bolts.
3. Serpentine drive belt from generator and power steering pump pulleys (if equipped).
4. Three bolts and power steering pump pulley (if equipped).
5. Two bolts retaining power steering pump (if equipped).
6. Three bolts and upper timing belt front cover.
7. Raise and suitably support vehicle.
8. Right-side splash shield.
9. Loosen A/C compressor upper and lower mounting bolts (if equipped).
10. A/C compressor drive belt from crankshaft pulley (if equipped).
11. Serpentine drive belt from crankshaft pulley.
12. One bolt and crankshaft pulley from crankshaft.
13. Three bolts and lower timing belt front covers.
Install or Connect
1. Lower timing belt front covers; secure with three bolts.
Tighten
Tighten Lower timing belt front cover bolts to 8 Nm (71 lb.in.).
2. Crankshaft pulley to crankshaft; secure with one bolt.
Tighten
Tighten Crankshaft pulley retaining bolt to 55 Nm (40 lb.ft.).
3. Serpentine drive belt to crankshaft pulley.
4. A/C compressor drive belt to crankshaft pulley (if equipped).
5. Reposition A/C compressor; secure with upper and lower mounting bolts (if equipped).
Tighten
Tighten A/C compressor upper and lower mounting bolts to 25 Nm (18 lb.ft.).
6. Right-side splash shield.
7. Lower vehicle.
8. Upper timing belt front cover; secure with three bolts.
Tighten
Tighten Upper timing belt front cover bolts to 8 Nm (71 lb.in.).
9. Reposition power steering pump; secure with two bolts (if equipped).
Tighten
Tighten Power steering pump bolts to 25 Nm (18 lb.ft.).
10. Power steering pump pulley to pump; secure with three bolts (if equipped).
Tighten
Tighten Power steering pump pulley bolts to 27 Nm (20 lb.ft.).
11. Serpentine drive belt to generator and power steering pump pulleys (if equipped).
12. Reposition generator; secure with upper and lower mounting bolts.
Tighten
Tighten Generator upper and lower mounting nuts and bolts to 25 Nm (18 lb.ft.).
13. Negative (-) battery cable.
CRANKSHAFT PULLEY
Remove or Disconnect
1. Negative (-) battery cable.
2. Loosen generator upper and lower mounting bolts.
3. Serpentine drive belt from generator and power steering pump pulleys (if equipped).
4. Raise and suitably support vehicle.
5. Right-side splash shield.
6. Loosen A/C compressor upper and lower mounting bolts (if equipped).
7. A/C compressor drive belt from crankshaft and compressor pulleys (if equipped).
8. Serpentine drive belt from crankshaft pulley.
9. One bolt and crankshaft pulley from crankshaft.
Install or Connect
1. Crankshaft pulley to crankshaft; secure with one bolt.
Tighten
Tighten Crankshaft pulley retaining bolt to 55 Nm (41 lb.ft.).
2. Serpentine drive belt to crankshaft pulley.
3. A/C compressor drive belt to crankshaft and compressor pulleys (if equipped).
4. Reposition A/C compressor and tighten upper and lower mounting bolts (if equipped).
Tighten
Tighten A/C compressor upper and lower mounting bolts to 25 Nm (18 lb.ft.).
5. Right-side splash shield. Lower vehicle.
6. Serpentine drive belt to generator and power steering pump pulleys (if equipped).
7. Reposition generator and tighten upper and lower mounting bolts.
Tighten
Tighten Generator upper and lower mounting nuts and bolts to 25 Nm (18 lb.ft.).
8. Negative (-) battery cable.
