Subject: GARBLED BASS FROM UM6, UM7 RADIOS WITH UX7 SPEAKERS (NEW FRONT DOOR SPEAKER)
Models
Affected: 1992 BONNEVILLE MODELS
CONDITION:
Two conditions may exist on some vehicles where the base speaker system (UX7) when coupled with base radios (UM6, UM7) may cause a distorted or garbled sound from the front door speakers when bass notes appear in the music being played.
CORRECTION:
Start of production through N1238278. Vehicles produced in this VIN range have UM6 or UM7 radios that were capable of putting out too much bass when the control was in the 3/4 to full up position. To repair this condition, the radio must be sent to an authorized AC Delco repair station. Radios with the correction can be identified by a red mark through the "2" in the serial number label.
Start of Production through N1252000. Vehicles built within this VIN range cannot handle the excessive bass produced by the radio. A new 4" X 6" front door speaker (Part No. 16174879) has been released for service. This speaker has a 220 mfd. capacitor soldered across terminals at the connector. Check both front door speakers for this latest change and replace as required.
Parts are expected to be available on January 20, 1992. In case of limited inventory, parts will be placed on 400 control to waive VIP surcharges. Only verifiable emergency VIP orders will be accepted. SPO will make every effort to obtain parts. However, the part will be shipped premium transportation at dealer's expense and all other order types will be placed on backorder until the 400 control is removed.
