REAR SPEAKER POP ON VEHICLES WITH CELLULAR TELEPHONES
(REPLACE AMPLIFIER)
MODELS:
1992-93 PONTIAC BONNEVILLE SSE AND SSEI EQUIPPED WITH RPO U85 8-SPEAKER SOUND SYSTEM
Condition:
Some owners of vehicles equipped with the RPO U85 8-speaker sound system may comment on a popping/clicking or "motor boating" sound in the rear speakers (sounds like a slow boat motor). This condition may occur when the phone uses an interior mounted antenna (such as a hand held or transportable phone).
Cause:
The radio frequency energy transmitted by the phone causes feedback in the instrument panel mounted radio amplifier.
Correction:
Replace amplifier with new amplifier, P/N 16183532. The new amplifier is not affected by cellular telephone operation.
