Subject:
SAG BETWEEN INSTRUMENT PANEL AND DEFROSTER GRILLE (INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL SUPPORT)

Affected Models:
1992 BONNEVILLE MODELS

CONDITION:

Some of the 1992 Bonneville models prior to VIN 1320749 and (Prior to VIN 1312063 on SSEI and SSE with Driver/Passenger SIR) may exhibit a sag between the instrument panel and defroster grille. This distortion is most evident on instrument panels exposed to or during higher temperature conditions.

CORRECTION:

To correct this condition an instrument panel support kit, part number 25617828, has been developed. To correct this condition, the following procedure must be used.

1. Note the location of the sag(s) (see figure 1).

2. Remove the defroster grille by carefully prying up on the rearward edge and then pulling the grille rearward to disengage the forward clips.

3. Remove any sensors from the grille by twisting in a clockwise direction as viewed from the bottom of the grille.

4. Loosen the instrument panel upper attachments to allow the support bracket to be installed between the defroster module and the instrument at the areas noted in step 1.

5. Install the supports provided in the kit as follows:
(See figure 2)

a. Pinch the top surface of the defroster module.

b. Feed the supports flat end under the instrument pad and hook onto the defroster module's front end.

c. Position the support at the problem area by sliding it along the defroster module surface.

d. Tighten the instrument panel fasteners to 3.0 N-m (26 lb.in.). Attach any sensors to the defroster grille and install the defroster grille.
