Air Injection Pump: Service and Repair
Air Pump Mounting:
DRIVE BELT
Remove or Disconnect
1. Inspect serpentine drive belt for ware, cracks or deterioration and replace if required. When installing new belt, it must be seated and fully secured in grooves of A/C compressor, AIR pump, generator, tensioner, power steering pump, water pump and crankshaft pulley.
A.I.R. PUMP AND ELECTRIC AIR CONTROL VALVE (EACV)
Remove or Disconnect
1. Negative battery cable.
2. Drive belt.
3. Bolts, holding A.I.R. Pump to mounting bracket
4. A.I.R. pump hoses, vacuum and electrical connections.
5. A.I.R. pump.
6. Pulley from A.I.R. pump.
7. If required insert needle nose pliers and pull air filter from hub.
8. Electric Air Control Valve.
Install or Connect
1. Electric air control valve (EACV) to A.I.R. pump.
Do not oil Air Pump.
2. New fan to air pump.
3. Spacer and pump pulley against centrifugal fan filter.
Tighten:
Torque pump pulley bolts equally to 13 Nm (10 lb ft). This will compress the centrifugal fan filter onto the pump shaft.
Important: Do Not drive fan filter on with a hammer. A slight amount of interference with the housing bore is normal. After a new fan filter has been installed, it may squeal upon initial operation or until it has has worn in. This may require a short period of pump operation at various engine speeds.
4. A.I.R. pump.
5. A.I.R. pump hoses, vacuum and electrical connections.
6. Bolts holding A.I.R. pump to mounting bracket.
Tighten:
Refer to image for torque specifications.
7. Drive belt.
8. Negative battery cable.
9. Check for proper operation. Refer to CHART C-6.
