Manual Transmission/Transaxle: Description and Operation

The NVT55O five speed manual transaxle is of the constant mesh design. All forward gears, reverse gear and differential output are combined in the assembly. Selection and shifting is accomplished by a combination of synchronizers with blocker rings controlled by sliding rail shift forks. Reverse gear is not synchronized; its idler gear is supported on a sliding spindle idler shaft.
