Disassembly
Disassemble
1. Remove bearing race and thrust bearing.
2. Remove roller bearings from cavity of drive gear.
3. Remove bearing from drive gear using bearing and gear puller tool No. J 2291201 or equivalent, and a press.
Inspection
1. Clean transmission case thoroughly inside and out with solvent, then clean magnetic disk at bottom of case.
2. Inspect case for cracks, then inspect front and rear faces of case for burrs; if burrs are present, file them off with fine mill file.
3. Inspect drive gear bearing rollers, reverse idler shaft and spacers.
4. Inspect drive gear bearing roller for chips, cracks or excessive wear. Replace if necessary.
5. Inspect clutch sleeves to ensure free movement on hubs.
6. Clean front and rear bearings thoroughly with solvent. Do not allow bearings to spin. Turn them slowly by hand. Spinning bearings may damage races and rollers.
7. Blow out bearings with compressed air, then lubricate bearings with transmission fluid.
8. Inspect bearings for roughness by slowly turning race by hand.
