Backup Lamp: Description and Operation

CIRCUIT OPERATION

With the Ignition Switch in RUN, BULB TEST or START, voltage is applied through the TURN B/U Fuse to the Gear Selector Switch (Automatic Transmission), or to the Backup Switch (Manual Transmission). Whenever the gear selector lever is shifted to REVERSE, the Gear Selector Switch or the Backup Switch closes, and voltage is applied to the Backup Lights.
