Service Procedure

1. Remove negative (-) battery cable.

2. Raise and suitably support vehicle. Refer to Service Manual GENERAL INFORMATION (Section 0A).





3. Remove transmission shift cable nut (1).

4. Disconnect transmission control cable (2) from shift cable bracket (3).

5. Lower vehicle.

6. Remove console. Refer to Service Manual INSTRUMENT PANEL, CLUSTER AND CONSOLE (Section 8C).

7. Disconnect shift control cable (2) by removing the retainer (4) at the floor shift control assembly (5).

8. Remove shift control cable (2) from floor.

9. Install new shift control cable (2) to floor.

10. Connect new shift control cable (2) to floor shift control assembly (5).

11. Install retainer (4) to floor shift control assembly (5).

12. Install console. Refer to Service Manual INSTRUMENT PANEL, CLUSTER AND CONSOLE (Section 8C).

13. Place floor shift control lever (5) in "Neutral."



14. Raise and suitably support vehicle. Refer to Service Manual GENERAL INFORMATION (Section 0A).

NOTICE

When fasteners are removed, always reinstall them at the same location from which they were removed. If a fastener needs to be replaced, use the correct part number fastener for that application. If the correct part number is not available, a fastener of equal size and strength (or stronger) may be use. Fasteners that are not reused, and those requiring thread locking compound will be called out. The correct torque value must be used when installing fasteners that require torque. If the above conditions are not followed, parts or system damage could result.

15. Install new shift control cable (2) into shift cable bracket (3).

16. Install shift control cable nut (1).



17. Adjust new shift control cable (2).

- Loosen shift cable nut (1) at shift lever (6).

- Rotate shift lever (6) fully clockwise to "PARK" detent and then back to "NEUTRAL" (2 detents).

18. Tighten shift cable nut (1) to 15 N-m (11 lb.ft.). Floor shift lever (5) and transmission shift lever (6) are to remain in the "NEUTRAL" position when tightening shift cable nut.

19. Lower vehicle.

20. Check cable adjustment by rotating floor shift control lever (6) through the detents.

21. Connect negative (-) battery cable.

22. Install Campaign Identification Label.
