Manual Transmission/Transaxle: Service and Repair

REPLACE
It may be necessary to remove the catalytic converter and its support bracket to facilitate transmission removal.

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.

2. Raise and support vehicle, then drain lubricant from transmission.

3. Remove propeller shaft.

4. Support left hand side of rear axle with a suitable lifting device.

5. Remove torque arm rear attaching bolts, then remove front torque arm bracket and torque arm.

6. Disconnect speed sensor and back-up lamp switch electrical connectors.

7. Remove catalytic converter hanger bracket.

8. Support engine using a suitable jack stand, then remove transmission mount nuts at support.

9. Remove transmission support bolts, then remove support.

10. Lower transmission just enough to provide access to shift control assembly.

11. Remove shift control assembly attaching bolts, then disconnect shift control from extension housing.

12. Remove transmission to flywheel housing attaching bolts, the remove transmission from vehicle.

13. Reverse procedure to install. Apply a 1/8 inch bead of sealant part No. 12345739 or equivalent to extension sealing surface.
