Removal and Installation

ISUZU
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Install engine support fixture J-28467-A or equivalent, then raise engine enough to take pressure off motor mounts, Fig. 6.
3. Remove left sound insulator.
4. Remove clutch master cylinder pushrod from clutch pedal.
5. Remove wire harness at mount bracket.
6. Remove clutch slave cylinder from transaxle support bracket and position aside.
7. Remove transaxle mount and mount bracket attaching bolts.
8. Remove shift cables and retaining clamp at transaxle.
9. Remove ground cable at transaxle attaching bolts, then disconnect back-up switch electrical connector.
10. Raise and support vehicle, then drain transaxle fluid.
11. Remove left front wheel and inner splash shield.
12. Remove transaxle front strut and front strut bracket.
13. Remove clutch housing cover attaching bolts, then the vehicle speed sensor at transaxle.
14. Remove stabilizer shaft at left suspension support and control arm.
15. Remove left suspension support attaching bolts and swing aside.
16. Remove drive axles and left shaft at transaxle.
17. Position suitable jack under transaxle, then remove transaxle to engine attaching bolts.
18. Slide transaxle towards drivers side, away from engine, then lower transaxle from vehicle while guiding right drive axle out of transaxle.
19. Reverse procedure to install. When installing transaxle, carefully guide right hand drive axle shaft into transaxle bore as transaxle is being raised. The right hand drive axle shaft cannot be installed once the transaxle has been connected to the engine.

MUNCIE
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Install engine support fixture J-28467-A or equivalent, then raise engine enough to take pressure off motor mounts, Fig. 6.
3. Remove left sound insulator.
4. Remove clutch master cylinder pushrod from clutch pedal.
5. Remove air cleaner and air intake duct assembly.
6. Remove clutch slave cylinder from transaxle support bracket and position aside.
7. Remove transaxle mount through bolt, then raise and support vehicle.
8. Remove exhaust crossover bolts at RH manifold, then lower vehicle.
9. Remove left hand exhaust manifold, then the transaxle mount bracket.
10. Remove transaxle shift cables, then the upper transaxle to engine attaching bolts.
11. On 1990-92 models, remove transaxle vent tube
12. On all models, raise and support vehicle, then remove left front tire and inner splash shield.
13. Remove transaxle strut and bracket.
14. Drain transaxle, then remove clutch housing cover attaching bolts.
15. Remove speedometer cable, then the stabilizer shaft at left suspension support and control arm.
16. Remove left hand suspension support attaching bolts and swing aside.
17. Remove left hand drive axle from transaxle.
18. Remove intermediate shaft housing to transaxle attaching bolts, then slide housing away from transaxle. Using a suitable tool, disconnect intermediate shaft from transaxle.
19. Position suitable jack under transaxle, then remove remaining transaxle to engine attaching bolts.
20. Lower transaxle assembly from vehicle.
21. Reverse procedure to install. When installing transaxle, carefully guide right hand drive axle shaft into transaxle bore as transaxle is being raised. The right hand drive axle shaft cannot be installed once the transaxle has been connected to the engine.
