INCONVENIENCE IN REACHING THE FRONT INNER SEAT BELT BUCKLE

Subject:
(INSTALL NEW BUCKLE ASSEMBLY)

Models Affected:
1992 GRAND AM MODELS

THIS BULLETIN IS BEING REVISED TO SPECIFY THE "DRIVER'S SIDE ONLY" IS AFFECTED ON THE SEDAN MODEL. HOWEVER, DESIGN CHANGE DOES APPLY TO BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDES ON THE COUPE. THIS BULLETIN CANCELS AND REPLACES BULLETIN 92-10-76 ISSUED 4/93. PLEASE DISCARD BULLETIN 92-10- 76.

CONDITION:

Some owners of 1992 Grand Am models have commented on the inconvenience of reaching the front inner seat belt buckle.

CAUSE:

A design change made to the seat belt buckle anchor plate resulted in a net reduction of the buckle assembly length. This design change affected the driver's side buckle on both the sedan and coupe models, but on sedan models it affected the driver's side ONLY. The passenger buckle design on the sedan remained unchanged.

CORRECTION:

On coupe models built prior to the VIN breakpoints below, replace both front inner seat belt buckle assemblies with new buckle assemblies. On sedan models built prior to the VIN breakpoints below, replace ONLY the driver's side front inner seat belt buckle assembly, the passenger side should not be changed. The new buckle assembly has been lengthened from 217 mm (8.5 in.) to 235 mm (9.25 in.). This design change was made in the factory according to color and seat position.
