Input Shaft
DISASSEMBLE
Third and fourth gear blocker rings are not interchangeable.
1. Remove snap ring (2).
2. Remove gears (3) and (4), bearings (5), race (6), blocker rings (7 and 14), synchronizer assembly (8) and gear (15).
3. Remove third gear bearing (16).
INSPECTION
Inspect all components for excessive wear and/or damage. Replace components as required.
ASSEMBLE
Lubricate all components with Synchromesh transaxle fluid part No. 12345349, or equivalent.
Bearing race (6) and fifth gear (3), require heating in an oven at 250°F for approximately seven to ten minutes.
1. Install bearing (16).
2. Install third gear (15) with cone facing upward.
3. Install blocker ring (14).
4. Install 3-4 synchronizer assembly (8) using gear remover/installer tool No. J-22912-01, press tube tool No. J-36183 and tube reducer tool No. J-36184, or equivalents, as follows:
a. Start press operation, then stop before tangs engage.
b. Lift and rotate gears (14 and 15) into synchronizer tangs.
c. Continue to press until gears are seated. Ensure all shavings are removed.
d. Ensure side marked third gear and small outside diameter groove of sleeve face toward third gear (15).
5. Install bearing race (6) and bearing (5).
6. Install blocker ring (7) and fourth gear (4), with fourth gear cone facing downward.
7. Install fifth gear (3) using input shaft installation tool No. J-36183 and adapter tool No. J-36184, or equivalents, and hydraulic press. Ensure flat side faces downward.
8. Install a new snap ring (2).
