Removal and Installation
Description:
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Install engine support fixture. Connect fixture hook to engine lift ring and raise engine enough to relieve weight from engine mounts. The engine support fixture must be positioned in the center of the cowl and the attaching parts properly tightened before supporting engine.
3. Remove left sound insulator from under instrument panel, then disconnect clutch master cylinder push rod from clutch pedal.
4. Remove air cleaner and air intake duct assembly.
5. Remove clutch slave cylinder from transaxle brace and position aside.
6. Remove transaxle mount through bolt.
7. Raise and support vehicle, then remove two exhaust crossover bolts from right side manifold.
8. Lower vehicle, then remove left side exhaust manifold.
9. Remove shift cables, then upper transaxle to engine attaching bolts.
10. Raise and support vehicle, then remove left tire and wheel assembly.
11. Remove left front inner splash shield, then the transaxle strut and bracket.
12. Drain transaxle into suitable container, then remove clutch housing cover bolts.
13. Disconnect speedometer wire connector.
14. Remove stabilizer bar from left side suspension support and control arm.
15. Remove left side suspension support attaching bolts, then swing support aside.
16. Install boot protectors at drive axles, then disengage both drive axles at transaxle. Remove left drive axle from transaxle housing bore.
17. The throttle body coolant pipes must be removed before engine is removed. Do not bend coolant pipes to gain clearance.
18. Attach the transaxle case to a suitable jack, then remove transaxle to engine mounting bolts.
19. Slide transaxle away from engine, lower jack and guide right drive axle from transaxle housing bore. Remove transaxle from vehicle.
20. Reverse procedure to install. When installing transaxle, guide the right drive axle into transaxle bore transaxle is being raised. The right drive axle cannot be installed after the transaxle is connected to engine.
