Refer to Figs. 179 and 180, when performing this procedure.
1. Disable airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Remove two instrument panel pad cover attaching screws at top of cluster trim plate, Fig. 181.
4. Remove two screws securing glove compartment hinges to instrument panel.
5. Holding door at the bottom, open door, then lift door up and out to release.
6. Remove three glove compartment attaching screws, located at the top of glove compartment.
7. Remove two screws securing plastic clips under the compartment.
8. Slide glove compartment out of instrument panel and disconnect electrical connectors to light and trunk release switch.
9. Remove one instrument panel pad cover attaching screw above glove compartment opening.
10. Lift front of pad and pull rearward to release clips.
11. Remove light switch assembly retaining screw, then remove assembly by carefully pulling out to release two spring clips at the top.
12. Remove windshield wiper/washer switch assembly retaining screw, then remove assembly by carefully pulling out to release two spring clips at the top.
13. Remove four cluster trim plate attaching screws, located inside switch openings.
14. Remove two cluster trim plate attaching screws from top of trim plate.
15. Remove two switch assembly connectors by sliding out of holders.
16. Remove two screws attaching clutch brake release lever, then disconnect linkage from brake assembly.
17. Remove two bolts securing ALDL connector, then lower connector.
18. Remove two left side sound insulator attaching screws, located on the rear edge of the insulator.
19. Remove one slide clip from front of insulator, then remove insulator.

20. Remove three attaching screws at the bottom of steering column cover, Fig. 182.
21. Remove cover by carefully pulling rearward to release it from the three clips at the top.
22. Remove two bolts at upper part of steering column.
23. Remove two bolts at lower part of column, then lower column.
24. Disconnect electrical connectors at steering column.
25. Remove two screws securing right side sound insulator, then remove insulator.
26. Disconnect electrical connectors to fuse block.
27. Remove four bolts securing fuse block, and remove fuse block.
28. Disconnect electrical connector at HVAC assembly.
29. Remove two remote radio amplifier attaching screws, disconnect electrical connectors and remove amplifier.
30. Remove four radio trim plate attaching bolts, then trim plate.
31. Remove two ventilation control attaching screws, Fig. 183.
32. Pull control rearward, disconnect electrical connectors.
33. Remove two radio control attaching bolts, disconnect electrical connectors and remove radio control assembly.
34. Remove two cassette player attaching bolts, disconnect electrical connectors and remove cassette player assembly.
35. Remove two radio receiver retaining nuts, disconnect electrical connectors and antenna connector, remove radio receiver.
36. Remove four cluster retaining screws, lift cluster and disconnect electrical connector, remove cluster.
37. Remove four radio speaker retaining screws, and remove both speaker assemblies.
38. Remove seven screws securing ventilation duct to instrument panel, Fig. 184.
39. Remove three retaining nuts from wiring harness carrier.
40. Lift instrument panel carrier up and rearward then out through the passenger door.
41. Remove ventilation duct and wiring harness carrier as a unit.
42. Reverse procedure to install.
43. Reactivate airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
