Without Daytime Running Lamps (DRL)
HEADLIGHTSBattery voltage is applied to the Light Switch at all times. When the Light Switch is in HEAD, voltage is applied directly to the LO Beams (Coupe) or to Headlight Dimmer Switch which directs voltage to the LO Beams. (Sedan) When the Headlight Dimmer Switch is placed in HI, battery voltage is applied to the HI Beam lights and HI Beam Indicator.
FOG LAMPS (COUPE)
With the Light Switch in PARK or HEAD and the Fog Lamp Switch ON, Battery voltage is supplied to the Fog Lamp relay coil. The coil is grounded through the HI Beam filaments. The relay energizes and applies voltage to the Fog Lamps. The Fog Lamps glow. Since the coil of the Fog Lamp relay is grounded through the Hi Beam filaments, the relay will de-energize any time the HI Beams are on because voltage is applied to both sides of the relay coil.
FOG LAMPS (SEDAN)
With the Light Switch in PARK or HEAD and the Fog Lamp Switch OFF, a reduced voltage is applied to the Fog Lamps through the resistance wire and the Fog Lamp relay. The Fog Lamps glow at reduced brilliance. With the Light Switch in PARK or HEAD and the Fog Lamp Switch ON, battery voltage is applied to the Fog Lamp relay coil. The coil is grounded through the HI Beam filaments. The relay energizes, bypassing the resistance wire, and applies battery voltage directly to the Fog Lamps. The Fog Lamps glow at full brilliance. Since the coil of the Fog Lamp relay is grounded through the HI Beam filaments, the relay will de-energize any time the HI Beams are on because battery voltage is applied to both sides of the relay coil. With the relay de-energized, the Fog Lamps will again glow at reduced brilliance.
DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER (STE only)
The Driver Information Center/Electronic Compass Display receives serial data information concerning lamp outages from the Driver Information Center Module. The Driver Information Center Module monitors the lamps by measuring voltage drops across its internal resistors. If the lamps are functioning normally, there will be a certain amount of voltage dropped across these internal resistors. If there is a lamp outage, there will be a small or zero voltage drop across the resistor. The DIC Module detects this and sends the appropriate lamp outage information to the Driver Information Center/Electronic Compass Display over the data lines.
FLASH TO PASS
When the Headlights are OFF or in LO Beam the HI Beam Headlights can be turned on momentary by pulling back part way on the MultiFunction Lever. This supplies battery voltage to CKT 11 turning on the HI Beams. The HI Beams will go out as soon as the lever is released.
