Electric Air Control Valve Check (Manual Trans Only) Chart C-6

Air Control Solenoid Circuit Diagram:

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The electric AIR control valve gets battery power when the ignition is turned "ON", and becomes energized when the PCM completes the circuit to ground. When the solenoid is energized, the valve works like a standard vacuum controlled AIR diverter valve.

TEST DESCRIPTION

Chart C-6, Electric Air Control Valve Check:

Numbers below refer to circled numbers on diagnostic chart.
1. This is a system performance check. When the vehicle goes into "closed-loop" operation, AIR will switch from the exhaust ports and be diverted to the air cleaner and atmosphere.
2. This step chcecks for a grounded driver circuit (circuit 429). With the ignition "ON" and the engine not running, the solenoid should be de-energized. Test light should be "OFF".
3. When the diagnostic test terminal is grounded with the ignition "ON" and engine not running, solenoid should be energized (PCM completes circuit 429 to ground, test light "ON"). If OK, PCM and wiring are OK. If not, the next step will determine if the problem is the wiring or the PCM.
