1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then remove left and right sound insulators.
2. Remove steering column opening filler by gently prying out.
3. Remove retaining screws and/or nut, then the right and left instrument panel trim plates. It may be necessary to loosen righthand console housing bracket.
4. Remove console housing as follows:
a. Remove side panels by prying outward, then pull rearward to remove accessory trim plate.
b. Remove console bracket to instrument panel nuts, housing to console bracket screws, then the housing assembly.
5. Remove instrument panel compartment/door as follows:
a. Open instrument panel compartment door, then gently pull out compartment/door until retaining pins on door unsnap from their retainers.
b. Unsnap instrument panel compartment strap from instrument panel center support, then remove instrument panel compartment/door.
6. Remove heater and A/C control, then the convenience center, Fig. 89.
7. Disconnect forward lamp and engine electrical harnesses from bulkhead connector.
8. Remove bulkhead from cowl, then the hood release handle.
9. Remove defroster grilles, then the upper instrument panel retaining screws located in defroster duct openings.
10. Remove two lower corner instrument panel retaining nuts, and one screw to instrument panel brace at left side of instrument panel opening, Fig. 91.
11. Remove two nuts securing electrical harness to neutral start switch, if necessary, then the three steering column retaining bolts and lower column.
12. Pull instrument panel assembly out enough to disconnect all electrical connectors and vacuum lines.
13. Remove instrument panel assembly with electrical harness attached.
14. If necessary, remove electrical harness assembly.
15. Reverse procedure to install.
