Disassembly
Fig. 3 Caliper Sliding Sleeve Removal:
1. Remove caliper and brake pads as previously described.
2. Remove inner protective caps for sliding sleeves.
3. Remove piston boot from housing.
4. Move sliding sleeve slightly toward protective cap and remove cap from groove in sleeve.
5. Remove boot from piston and housing.
6. Press sliding sleeves out of housing, Fig. 3, then remove seals using a suitable wood or plastic tool.
7. Clean outside of caliper, then drain brake fluid from caliper.
8. Use clean shop towels to pad interior of caliper assembly, then remove piston by directing compressed air into caliper brake hose inlet hole, Use just enough air pressure to ease piston out of bore. Do not place fingers in front of piston for any reason when applying compressed air. This could result in serious personal injury.
9. Secure caliper assembly in a suitable vise, then remove caliper retaining frame attaching bolts and the frame.
10. Remove piston seal from groove in caliper bore using a suitable wood or plastic tool. Do not use a metal tool of any kind to remove seal as it may damage bore.
11. Remove bleeder valve from caliper.
12. Inspect piston for scoring, nicks, corrosion, and wear and replace as needed.
13. Inspect caliper housing and seal groove for corrosion, nicks, scoring and excessive wear, and use crocus cloth to polish away corrosion from housing bore. Replace caliper housing if corrosion in and around seal groove will not clean up with crocus cloth.
14. Clean all parts with denatured alcohol. Dry with unlubricated compressed air. Blow out all passages in housing and bleeder valve.
