Drive Belt: Service and Repair

Remove or Disconnect

^ On vehicles equipped with air conditioning, remove the A/C compressor drive belt.
^ Loosen generator lower pivot nut and bolt.

Generator Mounting:

^ Loosen generator upper adjustment nut and slide generator along adjustment bracket toward engine.
1. Serpentine drive belt from generator, power steering pump and crankshaft pulleys.

Install or Connect

Serpentine Drive Belt Alignment:

1. Serpentine drive belt to generator, power steering pump and crankshaft pulleys; align the teeth on the drive belt with those of each drive pulley.

Adjust
^ Serpentine drive belt tension while tightening generator mounting nuts and bolt. Apply thumb pressure to the drive belt about 10 kg (22 lbs.). Measure belt deflection. Drive belt deflection should be 13 to 19 mm (0.5 to 0.75-inch).

Tighten
^ Generator upper adjustment nut and lower pivot nut and bolt to 25 Nm (18 lb. ft.).

^ On vehicles equipped with air conditioning, install the A/C compressor drive belt.
