Condition:

Some owners of 1990-92 LeMans models with 1.6L engine may experience a condition of the battery not holding a charge due to a loose alternator belt.

Cause:

The washer is not hardened and deforms into the adjustment slot of the upper brace, becoming concave and loose, allowing belt to loose tension.

Correction:

The mounting bolt and washer should be replaced with screw assembly P/N 11508139 prior to retensioning the generator drive belt. Belt tension should be adjusted according to the procedure found in the LeMans Service Manual.
