INFORMATION ON REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY (RKE) TRANSMITTER

Models Affected:
1990-93 BONNEVILLE, 1993 FIREBIRD, 1992-93 TRANS SPORT
1992-93 GRAND PRIX MODELS WITH RKE

When an owner returns to the dealership with a Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter concern on 1990-93 models, it is important to follow the procedure below:

Determine if the batteries are operational. Battery life for each transmitter should be 2 years. There have been some cases where RKE transmitters have been replaced when the only problem was a dead battery. Refer to Section 9K in the Service Manual for proper diagnostic procedures and battery replacement information.

THIS INFORMATION PERTAINS TO 1992 BONNEVILLE ONLY.

If a customer returns with a broken key ring tab, refer to the GMSPO catalog to see if there is a replacement back cover available instead of replacing the entire RKE transmitter.

Some 1992 Bonneville model RKE transmitters may operate intermittently or activate the locks without pressing the buttons. If the buttons feel flat, there is a good chance that the mylar under the buttons has shifted on the circuit board. If this condition exists, you will need to replace the transmitter.
