Wiper and Washer Systems: Description and Operation

With the Ignition Switch in ACCY or RUN, or during Retained Accessory Power, the Headlight Washers spray the Headlights with washer fluid when the Washer Switch is turned to the headlight wash position.
During operation, the Headlight Washer Motor is cooled by the washer fluid being pumped. If the motor is run "dry", it can quickly overheat. To protect the motor from burning out, the Washer Fluid Level Switch closes when the washer fluid level is low, grounding the Headlight Washer Disable Input of the headlight Washer Module. This prevents the relay control coil from energizing so that current cannot be supplied to the Headlight Washer Motor. The motor does not run when the washer fluid level is low.
