Left Cylinder Head

LEFT CYLINDER HEAD ASSEMBLY AND GASKET

TOOL REQUIRED: J 36660 Torque Angle Meter

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Raise and suitably support vehicle.
2. Drain coolant.
3. Lower vehicle.
4. Upper intake manifold assembly.
- Intake Manifold
5. Valve rocker arm cover assemblies.
- Rocker Arm Assembly
6. Lower intake manifold assembly.
- Intake Manifold
7. Left exhaust manifold assembly.
9. Oil level indicator and tube assembly.
9. Serpentine drive belt.
- Drive Belt
10. Coolant temperature sensor assembly.
11. Spark plug wires from spark plugs.
12. Spark plugs.
13. Engine lift brackets.
14. Wiring harness clip from rear of cylinder head assembly.
15. Secondary air injection pipe bracket bolt/screw.
16. Power steering pump assembly and brackets and lay aside.
17. Loosen rocker arms until pushrod assemblies can be removed.
18. Cylinder head bolts/screws.
19. Cylinder head assembly and gasket.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. New cylinder head gasket.
2. Cylinder head assembly over locator pins and gasket.
3. Coat threads of cylinder head bolts/screws with sealing compound, GM P/N 1052080 or equivalent.
4. Cylinder head bolts/screws finger tight.

Tighten
^ Cylinder head bolts/screws in sequence to 55 Nm (41 lb.ft.).
^ Turn cylinder head bolts/screws in sequence an additional 90 degrees using J36660.

5. Pushrod assemblies and rocker arms. Rocker Arm Assembly
- Adjust rocker arms. Valve Clearance
6. Power steering pump assembly and brackets.
7. Secondary air injection pipe bracket bolt/screw.
8. Spark plugs.
Tighten Spark plugs to 15 Nm (11 lb. ft.).

9. Spark plug wires to spark plugs.
10. Wiring harness clip to rear of cylinder head assembly.
11. Engine lift brackets.
12. Coolant temperature sensor connector.
13. Serpentine drive belt.
- Drive Belt
14. Oil level indicator and tube assembly.
15. Left exhaust manifold assembly.
16. Lower intake manifold assembly.
- Intake Manifold
17. Valve rocker arm cover assemblies.
- Valve Cover
18. Upper intake manifold assembly.
- Intake Manifold
19. Refill with coolant.
