Engine Removal and Installation
1. Disable airbag system and relieve fuel system pressure as described under ``Precautions,'' then disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Raise and support vehicle, then remove wheels.
3. Drain coolant, then disconnect exhaust crossover pipe assembly from intermediate pipe.
4. On vehicles with automatic transmission, remove converter cover bolts and converter bolts.
5. On all vehicles, remove front fascia lower deflectors, stabilizer bar bolts and the serpentine drive belt.
6. On vehicles with automatic transmission, disconnect transmission cooler lines from radiator.
7. On all vehicles, disconnect lower radiator hose from radiator and heater hoses from pipes at engine, then the electrical ground straps from right side of engine block and electrical connections from starter motor.
8. Disconnect electrical connectors from knock sensor, oxygen sensor, coolant temperature sensor, camshaft sensor, crankshaft sensor and wheel speed sensor.
9. Disconnect electrical connectors from engine oil level switch and fuel pump switch/engine oil pressure gauge sensor assemblies.
10. Disconnect right front brake line from caliper brake hose, then the wiring harness from transmission.
11. Disconnect shift linkage from transmission, then the propeller shaft from transmission. Scribe alignment marks on propeller shaft before disconnecting.
12. Disconnect torque arm from transmission, then the intermediate steering shaft from rack and pinion assembly.
13. Disconnect electrical ground straps from left side of frame rail, then lower vehicle.
14. Remove air intake duct, then the fuel pipe assembly.
15. Disconnect cruise and accelerator control cables from throttle body, then he upper radiator hose from intake manifold and lower radiator hose from front cover.
16. Disconnect radiator fan electrical connections, then remove radiator fan assembly.
17. Disconnect brake booster vacuum hose, then the Y brace from right exhaust manifold.
18. Remove alternator and A/C compressor bracket and reposition, then disconnect engine wiring harness connectors and reposition.
19. Remove brake master cylinder and reposition, then the upper bolts and nuts from strut assemblies.
20. Disconnect right front brake line from modulator valve assembly and clips, then raise and support vehicle.
21. Place a lift table under engine and engine frame assembly, then remove engine frame and transmission support bolts.
22. Raise vehicle from engine, transmission and engine frame assemblies, then secure strut assemblies to engine frame.
23. Disconnect transmission TV cable from throttle body, then remove transmission assembly.
24. On vehicles with manual transmission, remove clutch housing and clutch assembly.
25. On all vehicles, disconnect power steering lines from power steering pump.
26. Remove engine mount through bolts, then the engine assembly from engine frame.
27. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Tighten fasteners to specifications.
b. Bleed brake and power steering systems.
c. Align wheels.
d. Rearm airbag system as described under ``Precautions.''
