Electronic Spark Control Module: Description and Operation
Knock Sensor Wiring Diagram:
Purpose:
The spark control module is used to retard ignition timing up to 10° to reduce spark knock in the engine. This allows the engine to use maximum spark advance to improve driveability and fuel economy.
Operation:
The knock sensor system is used to detect engine detonation. The ECM will retard the spark timing based on signals from the knock sensor module.
The knock sensors produce an AC voltage which is sent to the knock sensor module. The amount of AC voltage produced by the sensors depend upon the amount of knock. This signal is input to the ECM where it adjusts the Ignition Control (IC) to reduce spark knocking.
Location:
The knock sensor module is located in the top of the ECM.
