Fuel Pump Relay: Description and Operation

Fuel Pump Wiring Diagram:

Purpose:
The ECM utilizes the fuel pump relay to control fuel pump operation.

Operation:
When the ignition switch is on the ECM completes the ground signal to the coil side of the fuel pump relay. The magnetic field generated by the coil causes the switch portion of the relay to energize the fuel pump circuit.

The fuel pump will remain "ON" as long as the ECM receives low resolution reference pulses from the ignition system. If ignition pulses are not present the ECM will de-energize the fuel pump circuit in 2-3 seconds after key is turned "ON" or engine stops.


Location:
The fuel pump relay is attached foot rest bracket under carpet, forward of left kick panel.
