Horn - Intermittent Blowing When Car is Cold

Bulletin Number: 93-3-9
Reference Number: 333202

Subject:
INTERMITTENT HORN BLOWING WHEN CAR IS COLD (REPLACE CONTACT ASSEMBLY/VINYL PAD)

Models Affected:
1989-93 SUNBIRD AND 1992-93 GRAND AM MODELS

CONDITION

Some owners of 1989-93 Sunbird vehicles and 1992-93 Grand Am vehicles may experience intermittent horn blowing when car is cold.

CAUSE:

This condition may be caused by excessive shrinkage of the contact assembly components when cold. This forces the horn pad contact plates together which activates the horn.

CORRECTION:

Install new parts according to explanation below:

On 1992 Grand Am models without leather steering wheel and 1989-93 Sunbird the vinyl pads cannot be assembled with redesigned contact assemblies. Therefore, replace with P/N 16753782 (Contact assembly) and P/N 16753781 (Vinyl pad) for these models.

On 1993 Grand Am models, only replacement of the contact assembly is necessary.

Parts are expected to be available on April 26, 1993.
