Power Steering Pump: Adjustments

Power Steering Pump Belt Adjustment:

Tool Required:
J 36018 Belt Tension Gage

Adjust

1. Place J 36018 on belt.
2. Check belt tension to insure 450 N (100 lbs.), if incorrect proceed to Step # 3.
^ Disconnect PCV heater wire.
^ Move the PCV heater aside for access to the belt.
3. Loosen 2 pump bracket adjustment bolts # 6 and # 7 slightly.
4. Set belt tension to 450 N (100 lbs.).
^ If installing a new drive belt, set tension to 900 N (200 lbs.) maximum. Start engine and run for a minimum of 2 minutes, then reset tension to 450 N (100 lbs.).
5. Tighten pump adjustment bolts to specifications

Tighten
^ Rear bolt to 96 N.m (71 lbs. ft.).
^ Front bolt to 27 N.m (20 lbs. ft.).
