Window Molding & Quarter Panel - Gap
Group Ref.: 10 - BodyBulletin No.: 431012
Date: June, 1994
SUBJECT:
GAP BETWEEN UPPER REAR WINDOW REVEAL MOLDING AND QUARTER PANEL
(REPLACE REAR WINDOW/REVEAL MOLDING)
MODELS:
1992-94 BUICK SKYLARK
1992-94 OLDSMOBILE ACHIEVA
1992-94 PONTIAC GRAND AM (SEDANS ONLY)
CONDITION:
Some owners may comment on a gap between the upper portion of the rear window reveal molding and the quarter panel.
CAUSE:
The surface of the rear window in the upper corner sits too low in relation to the quarter panel. This difference can cause the rear window reveal molding to roll upward out of the channel resulting in the gap.
CORRECTION:
A new rear window (see part numbers) has been designed to correct the upper corner surface. When the rear window is replaced, a new rear window reveal molding, P/N 16616046, will also be required. IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT THE NEWEST GM SPO REAR WINDOW AND REVEAL MOLDING BE USED TO CORRECT THIS CONDITION. The current "Christmas Tree" style reveal molding, P/N 16615381, should still be used for repairs that DO NOT involve replacing the rear window (example - paint repairs).
Refer to the procedure outlined in Section 10-2 (Stationary Glass) in the appropriate Service Manual for correct repair procedure.
