Manual Transmission/Transaxle: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.

2. Install engine support fixture tool No. J-28467 or equivalent, then raise engine enough to take pressure off motor mounts.

3. Remove left sound insulator.

4. Remove clutch master cylinder push rod from clutch pedal.

5, Remove air cleaner and air intake duct assembly.

6. Remove clutch slave cylinder from transaxle support bracket and position aside.

7. Remove transaxle mount through bolt, then raise and support vehicle.

8. Remove exhaust crossover bolts at RH manifold, then lower vehicle.

9. Remove lefthand exhaust manifold, then the transaxle mount bracket.

10. Remove transaxle shift cables, then the upper transaxle to engine attaching bolts.

11. Raise and support vehicle, then remove left front tire and inner splash shield.

12. Remove transaxle strut and bracket.

13. Drain transaxle, then remove clutch housing cover attaching bolts.

14. Remove speedometer cable, then the stabilizer shaft at left suspension support and control arm.

15. Remove lefthand suspension support attaching bolts and swing aside.

16. Remove lefthand drive axle from transaxle.

17. Remove intermediate shaft housing to transaxle attaching bolts, then slide housing away from transaxle. Using a suitable tool, disconnect intermediate shaft from transaxle.

18. Position suitable jack under transaxle, then remove remaining transaxle to engine attaching bolts.

19. Lower transaxle assembly from vehicle.

20. Reverse procedure to install. When installing transaxle, carefully guide righthand drive axle shaft into transaxle bore as transaxle is being raised. The righthand drive axle shaft cannot be installed once the transaxle has been connected to the engine.
