Frozen Lock Cylinder Repair

Frozen lock cylinders due to cold weather may be repaired using the following procedure.

NOTICE: Be careful not to damage painted surfaces while using heat gun.

1. Apply heat to cylinder area with a heat gun.
2. Hold shutter door open with a paper clip or similar item and force air into cylinder using compressed air and a blow gun attachment.
3. While holding the shutter door open, inject a small amount of Multi-Purpose Lubricant (GM P/N 12345120) or equivalent, SAE 5W30 Motor Oil, or spray type Silicone (GM P/N 1052276) or equivalent.
4. Work key into cylinder several times and wipe any excess lubrication residue from the key.
