Diagnosis By Symptom - Base Cluster
SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS^ Perform the System Check and refer to the Symptom Table for the appropriate diagnostic procedure(s).
"OIL" PRESSURE INDICATOR DIAGNOSIS
If the "OIL" Pressure Indicator stays lit with the Engine running:
^ Check for adequate oil level. Check oil pressure with a mechanical gage.
^ Disconnect the connector to the Fuel Pump/Oil Pressure Switch. If the indicator goes "OFF," install a new Fuel Pump/Oil Pressure Switch. If the indicator stays "ON," check the TAN wire back to the Instrument Cluster terminal "C 3" for a short to ground. If a short to ground is not found, remove the Instrument Cluster and inspect the printed circuit for a short. Also check that the printed circuit is mating properly with its connector and is not shorted there.
If the "OIL" Pressure Indicator does not light before the Engine starts, and the bulb is good, measure the resistance from the Fuel Pump/Oil Pressure Switch connector to ground.
^ If the resistance is not close to zero ohms, replace the Fuel Pump/Oil Pressure Switch.
^ If the resistance is close to zero ohms, check the TAN wire back to the Instrument Cluster terminal "C3" for an open. Also check that the printed circuit has no cracks or flaws and is mating properly with its connector.
